David Fleenor

The Rev. David Fleenor is the founding manager of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Stony Brook Medicine and a clinical instructor in the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. David is a board-certified chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains, and a certified educator with the ACPE: The Standard for Spiritual Care and Education. He earned a Master’s of Divinity from the Pentecostal Theological Seminary and a Master’s of Sacred Theology from the General Theological Seminary. He is currently a student in Rush University's Ph.D. in Health Sciences under the mentorship of Dr. George Fitchett, Professor and Director of Research in the Department of Religion Health and Human Values. His dissertation focuses on designing a curriculum for a new graduate degree for healthcare chaplains.

Previously, David was an assistant professor in the Department of Medical Education at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai where he taught medical students how to integrate spiritual care into the practice of medicine. David also served as the Director of Education for the Center for Spirituality and Health at Mount Sinai where he oversaw Mount Sinai's CPE programs. Prior to that, David was the Senior Director of Clinical Services and CPE at the non-profit HealthCare Chaplaincy and the Director of Spiritual Care at NYU Langone Medical Center. He also served as a chaplain and CPE educator at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

David is an Episcopal priest serving at Church of the Ascension in Brooklyn, NY. He lives in New York City with his wife, teenage step-daughter, and their Maltese puppy.
